Clarification please on pst size

Nov 5, 2016 at 6:19 PM
I just installed the backup add in. Two quesitons:
1- it seems it will only work after outlook is shut down. Is there a batch file I can add to shut down outlook, start the backup script and restart outlook? This way I can schedule the backups for a specific time of day

2- is there a cap on size of pst file? One account I have has over 35,000 emails. Will it choke when the pst file gets over a certain size?

Thanks

Hello,

here are the answers to your questions:
1)
I recommend Powershell to acomplish these three steps.
  • Close outlook: Get-Process Outlook | Foreach-Object { $_.CloseMainWindow()}
  • BackupExecutor.exe can also be called from a script.
    Just execute it on commandline to see the available parameters (e.g. /backupnow)
  • Afterwards start outlook again: Start-Process Outlook
2)
There are no size limitations of the program as far as I know.
Never encountered one even with some GBs of data.

Kind regards,
Thomas
